I. Introduction to CQUST

Founded in 1951, Chongqing University of Science and Technology is a full-time public undergraduate institution with prominent industry advantages and distinctive educational characteristics, mainly characterized by oil and gas exploration and green development, low-carbon metallurgy and advanced materials, high-end equipment and electronic information, energy and chemical engineering and intelligent security. It is a multi-disciplinary university with coordinated development in science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, and art. In 2017, it became a master’s degree awarding institution, and in 2021, it became a doctoral degree awarding project construction institution.

The university covers a total area of approximately 580 acres, with teaching and research facilities worth 497 million yuan. Its library possesses a collection of nearly 2 million books; there are 20 schools (departments, research institutes, and centers), 70 undergraduate majors and 9 master’s degree authorization fields; there are more than 20,000 full-time undergraduate students and 2,000 postgraduate students, including nearly 100 international students; there are more than 1,690 faculty members, including 1,370 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are more than 630 professors and associate professors, more than 620 doctors, and nearly 35% of them have experience of overseas study or further education.

CQUST attaches great importance to international cooperation. Up to now, the university has established partnership in teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation with 72 universities or institutions in 27 countries or regions such as Edinburgh Napier University (UK), University of Illinois, Chicago (USA), University of Regina (Canada), Haaga-Helia UAS (Finland), Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen (the Netherlands), University of Veracruz (Mexico), Kyungpook National University (Korea) and Changwon National University (Korea).

II. Introduction to CQUST’s Bachelor Degree Programs

The university establishes a total of 14 undergraduate majors taught in Chinese and 3 undergraduate majors taught in English. The duration of study is from 3 to 7 years. The international students can obtain a diploma after completing the courses required by the talent cultivation plan and passing the graduation dissertation defense. They can be awarded a degree certificate if they are qualified to the requirements of the bachelor’s degree.

III. Fees

1. Registration fee

The applicant should pay the registration fee of 400 CNY by bank transfer within the specified time after receiving the letter of admission. The registration fee will only be collected at the time of admission and will not be refunded in principle. The account information is as follows:

2.Tuition Fee

Details of tuition fees will be shown in the attachment 2023 Enrollment Catalogue for Full-time Bachelor Degree Programs for International Students of Chongqing University of Science and Technology.

3.Accommodation Fee

Double Room: 1,500 CNY for one semester, 3,000 CNY for one academic year

Quadruple Room: 750 CNY for one semester, 1,500 CNY for one academic year

4.Insurance Fee

The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students studying in China must purchase medical insurance from insurance companies in mainland China. For those who do not purchase the required medical insurance, they will not be registered. The insurance fee is 800 CNY per year.

IV. Scholarships

1.Freshmen Scholarship for Bachelor Degree Programs

International students can apply for the President Scholarship for International Students of CQUST (Freshmen Scholarship for Bachelor Degree Programs) before enrollment, with a funding amount of 9,000 CNY per person per year and a funding period of one year. The scholarship is available to all the incoming freshmen of bachelor degree programs. Applicants can submit their scholarship applications together with their admission materials.

2.Academic Scholarship for Bachelor Degree Programs

The Academic Scholarship for Bachelor Degree Programs is reviewed and distributed from the second year. The category shall be depended on the assessment result of applicants’ academic record and daily performance.

First prize: 12,000 CNY per person per academic year, and the recipients’ percentage of total self-support registered international undergraduate students is within 15%;

Second prize: 9,000 CNY per person per academic year, and the recipients’ percentage of total self-support registered international undergraduate students is within 50%;

Third prize: 5,000 CNY per person per academic year, and the recipients’ percentage of total self-support registered international undergraduate students is within 35%.

3.Outstanding Scholarship for International Students

The Outstanding Scholarship for International Students is reviewed and distributed from the second year. The Outstanding Scholarship for International Students is especially for registered degree international students with outstanding performance, and is organized to select 10 students in each academic year. The funding amount is 10,000 CNY per person per academic year.

V. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport;

2. Aged between 18 and 30, in good physical and mental health;

3. Those who have a graduation certificate of a senior high school or above.

VI. Application Procedure

1. Online Application

Applicants shall apply online and the website is http://cqust.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx. The application to Bachelor Degree Programs shall be completed by the applicants themselves. The online application system will be opened on May 12, 2023 and closed on June 30, 2023.  

2. Application Materials

①Scanned copy of the first page of your passport

②Scanned copy of Chinese visa pages and residence permits (if you have)

③A diploma of a senior high school or above

④Transcripts for the last academic year of the most advanced studies

⑤A certificate of non-criminal (in recent 6 months)

⑥Foreigner Physical Examination Form (in recent 6 months)

⑦A certificate of financial support (no less than 3,000 dollars)

⑧Proof of Chinese proficiency (provided by students who apply for programs in Chinese)

⑨Proof of English proficiency (provided by students who apply for programs in English)

⑩President Scholarship Application Form for International Students (Freshmen) of Chongqing University of Science and Technology (if you need )

P.S. International students who apply for the bachelor degree programs taught in Chinese can participate in the Chinese language training program of our university if they are unable to provide any proof of Chinese proficiency.

VII. Admission Progress

1. Examination of qualification and materials;

2. Review of language proficiency and academic background;

3. Confirming the admission result and sending the admission materials.

VIII. Entrance Examination

The entrance examination is a written examination which mainly focuses on the basic knowledge such as English and mathematics. The total score is 100 points and 60 points are qualified.

IX. Visa

Admitted students are required to apply for a Chinese study visa at the local Chinese Embassy with an admission letter and a study visa application form (JW202). Students shall come to China with the study visa and make sure that the visa is valid during their stay in China.
