I. Introduction to CQUST

Founded in 1951, Chongqing University of Science and Technology is a multi-disciplinary university taking engineering as its main discipline, with coordinated development in engineering, science, management, economics, law, literature, and art. It has outstanding industry advantages and distinctive educational characteristics, especially in oil and gas exploration and green development, and low-carbon metallurgy and advanced materials. In 2017, it became a master’s degree awarding university, and in 2021, it became a doctoral degree awarding project construction university.

The university is located in the central area of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, with a beautiful campus environment and complete facilities for learning, living, and cultural and sports activities. The campus covers a total area of 1,694,700 square meters, and the total area of school buildings is 732,500 square meters. Teaching and research facilities worth nearly 680 million yuan in total. Its library possesses a collection of over 2.12 million books; there are 22 schools (departments, research institutes, and centers), 62 undergraduate majors and 15 master’s degree authorization fields; there are more than 24,500 full-time students including over 2,400 postgraduate students; there are more than 1,700 faculty and staff members including more than 680 professors and associate professors and more than 730 doctors.

CQUST attaches great importance to international cooperation. Up to now, the university has established partnership in teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation with more than 80 universities or institutions in 31 countries or regions such as Edinburgh Napier University (UK), University of Illinois, Chicago (USA), University of Regina (Canada), Haaga-Helia UAS (Finland), Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen (Netherland), University of Veracruz (Mexico), Kyungpook National University (Korea) and Changwon National University (Korea).

II. Introduction to Master Degree Programs

The university establishes a total of 27 postgraduate majors taught in Chinese. The duration of study is from 2.5 to 5 years. The international students can obtain a diploma after completing the courses required by the talent cultivation plans and passing the graduation dissertation defence. They can be awarded a degree certificate if they are qualified to the requirements of the master’s degree.

III. Fees

1. Registration fee

The applicant should pay the registration fee of 400 CNY by bank transfer within the specified time after receiving the letter of admission. The registration fee will only be collected at the time of admission and will not be refunded in principle. The account information is as follows:

2.Tuition Fee

Tuition fee for enrolled majors: 20,000 CNY per person per academic year. Details of tuition fees will be shown in the attachment 2025 Enrollment Catalogue for Full-time Master Degree Programs for International Students of Chongqing University of Science and Technology.

3.Accommodation Fee

Double Room: 1,500 CNY for one semester, 3,000 CNY for one academic year

4.Insurance Fee

The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students studying in China must purchase medical insurance from insurance companies in mainland China. For those who do not purchase the required medical insurance, they will not be registered. The insurance fee is 800 CNY per year.

IV. Scholarships

1.Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship for International Students

Postgraduate students: the first prize is 30,000 CNY per person per year; the second prize is 15,000 CNY per person per year, which is evaluated once a year. The funding period is not more than three years, and the funding quota is subject to the final allocation.

2. President Scholarship for International Students of CQUST

Freshmen Scholarship for Master Degree Programs is applicable to the first academic year after admission, and the funding amount is 20,000 CNY per person.

Academic Scholarship for Master Degree Programs is applicable to the second and third academic year after admission. The funding amount is 20,000 CNY per person per year for the first prize, 18,000 CNY per person per year for the second prize, and 15,000 CNY per person per year for the third prize.

Outstanding Scholarship for International Students is applicable to the second and third academic year after admission. The funding amount is 10,000 CNY per person per year. Each year, it is determined by the selection and evaluation of all international students (including undergraduates and postgraduates), with a total of 10 places.

Note: The Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship for International Students and the President Scholarship for International Students of CQUST cannot be applied for repeatedly.

V. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens with valid passports;

2. Aged between 18 and 35, in good physical and mental health;

3. Those who have a bachelor’s degree.

VI. Application Procedure

1. Online Application

Applicants shall apply online and the website is http://cqust.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx. The application to Master Degree Programs shall be completed by the applicants themselves. Applicants shall submit relevant materials as required.

The online application system will be opened on April 8, 2025 and closed on July 5, 2025.

2. Application Materials

①A scanned copy of the first page of the passport, which should be valid for more than one year. Applicants who are in China should provide a copy of their visas (or residence permits) and the entry customs seal at the same time.

②A certificate of graduation and a certificate of bachelor’s degree. The applicant should submit a certificate of graduation and a certificate of bachelor’s degree. The fresh graduates should provide the pre-graduation certificate issued by their university. If they are admitted, they should provide the formal certificate of graduation and bachelor’s degree when they make a registration.

③Transcripts during undergraduate study.

④Proof of Chinese proficiency. Applicants shall provide a score report of 180 (or above) of HSK 4.

⑤A Learning plan or research plan (stating basic personal information, personality characteristics, hobbies, learning motivation, learning purpose and learning plan, no less than 2,000 words).

⑥Two recommendation letters offered by associate professors or professors (with signature and contact information of the referees).

⑦A certificate of non-criminal (students or in-service personnel can provide a certificate of behavior issued by their school or institution, which needs to be stamped with an official seal).

⑧Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The applicants shall conduct the examination in accordance with the items required in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid; the attachment of examination results (blood report, ECG and X-ray chest film) must be uploaded at the same time when applying. In view of the validity of the examination results for 6 months, please plan the examination time reasonably.

⑨A certificate of financial support (no less than 3,000 dollars).

⑩Other materials required by the school.

Note: ①All the above materials shall be in Chinese or English. If the original is not in Chinese or English, the notarized original of Chinese or English translation shall also be submitted. For the certification materials issued by the school, the name and contact information of the certifier shall be provided and the official seal shall be stamped; ②Please bring the original of all the above materials for on-site checking when registering.

VII. Admission Progress

1. Examination of qualification and materials;

2. Review of language proficiency and academic background;

3. Interview for those who pass the above examination;

4. Confirming the admission result and sending the admission materials.

Note: Please pay attention to the registration email in time, or log in to the application system to check the admission progress.

VIII. Visa

Admitted students are required to apply for a Chinese study visa at the local Chinese Embassy with an admission letter and a study visa application form (JW202). Students shall come to China with the study visa and make sure that the visa is valid during their stay in China.
